Going Deeper with the Word – Will He Say Yes, or No? Both Answers Are For Your Good.

When we bring a request to God, what do we really want to hear in response? Is ‘Yes’ the only response we are willing to accept? Are we really ok with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’? If God responds with ‘No’, is that for our own good? 🤔 Let's discuss.

Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review with me the Word of God.  The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.

Today, I will share verses from the Amplified Bible. Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message.

Here is our first verse.

14 This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that [a]if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us. 15 And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him.

– 1 John 5:14-15 AMP

In these verses, we learn from John the Baptist that we can make a prayer of petition before God and know that God hears every word.  John explains specifically that if we ask for anything that is according to His will, we can know that it will be granted to us.

Let’s have a look at another verse.

There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven—

– Ecclesiastes 3:1 AMP

In this verse, we learn of the importance of timing in our prayers of petition.  The petition we bring before God may very well have a response of ‘Yes’ at the right time, but ‘No’ at the moment of the request or the timing requested.  This verse reminds us that every event and purpose has its appointed time and season.

Let’s have a look at one more verse.

For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.

– Matthew 6:32-33 AMP

In this verse, Jesus Christ explains that we can openly present prayers of petition before God, but that we should posture ourselves to seek and strive after God’s character and righteousness.  In doing so, we can rest assured that prayers of petition that align with God’s ways will result in an abundance of provision from God.

As mentioned many times in our messages, the above scriptures reinforce the idea that seeking God’s will and plan in our lives is so important, especially in our prayers of petition.

Praying for God’s will at all times ensures that we are most aligned with the guidance and path that God has in store for each and every one of us.
