Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review with me the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.
Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction in learning about the purpose and plans that God has in store for each of us.
Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.
Here is our first verse:
Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us,
– Ephesians 3:20 AMP
In this verse, Paul explains that when we seek to carry out God’s purpose for us, God will work with us and through us in a way that is more than we can ever ask or dream of. This verse explains in so many words that whatever you may think you were capable of without God’s plans pales in comparison to what God can and will do when you seek out what He has planned for you.
Let’s have a look at another verse.
‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’
– Jeremiah 29:11 AMP
In this verse, the prophet Jeremiah explains that the Lord knows precisely the plans He has created for us. Often, we live out a large part of our lives far from God and far from plans that would provide us with peace and well-being. We may unknowingly seek out plans that introduce pain and even disaster into our lives. Thankfully, it is never too late to seek God’s plans for us. If we seek out what God has planned for us we can be directed and guided to a path that is not subject to the ‘randomness’ the world offers but instead offers well-being and a future of hope.
Let’s look at one last verse.
Many plans are in a man’s mind, But it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).
– Proverbs 19:21 AMP
In this verse, King Solomon reveals that man will certainly be inclined to lay out plans. Of course, we all have laid out plans for our lives, be it short-term, long term or even a lifetime. We can all pursue our plans, prepare for plans, and even achieve success in these plans. The point here is not that we are incapable of creating and succeeding at plans, it is that only God knows the best plan for us. Only God knows the purpose and plans that He has created for us before we were even conceived. When we seek out and align with these plans, we can ensure that we stand the best chance for the best-laid plans to be carried out, plans that only God knows for each of us.
