Today I’d like to chat about the story of God using a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night to lead and guide the Israelites in their exodus from bondage in Egypt. This was truly a sign from God to behold from a very far distance.
If we open an Amplified Bible to the book of Exodus chapter 13 verse 21 it reads:
The [presence of the] Lord was going before them by day in a pillar (column) of cloud to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, so that they could travel by day and by night. Exodus 13:21
What must that have been like – to see a constant reminder of exactly where to go as you are literally fleeing danger AND a reminder that the Lord your God is with you?

What does a Cloud by day and fire by night look like for you in 2022? You know, God has a way of leading and guiding each of us in the exact way each of us needs.
What must that have been like – to see a constant reminder of exactly where to go as you are literally fleeing danger AND a reminder that the Lord your God is with you?
Sure, we may have an idea of what we need to know and we may even think we know what is best but do we really know what is better for us or does He?
I admit, there have been plenty of times in my life where I needed guidance from God on what direction to go. Gratefully, He has done just that.
Don’t get me wrong, I have had seasons of waiting until the point of tears all the way to instantaneous responses to a question in very clear and certain terms and everything in between.
In each and every case the timing was precisely what it needed to be. Often times, in the face of my reality I may feel as though God is not with me when in retrospect I realize He was with me all along.
I have a question for you. If you are asking God right now for direction on which way to go, do you trust Him with His answer? What if it is in the opposite direction that you desire?
I want to encourage you to walk in faith, trusting that God knows exactly what you need and that He is with you – even if circumstances seem to suggest He is far, know that He is with you.
What does it look like to walk in faith? It means mindfully, prayerfully leaning not on your own understanding and trusting that God knows what is best. Trusting that God will lead and guide you step by step – , that He will steer you left or right or even when to stop or go.
Ask God today to give you wisdom, discernment and order your steps according to His will and His plans for you.
