Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.
Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction about trusting God.
Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.
If you are watching this message online, we invite you to share your comments as we review each verse.
Here is our first verse.
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16
This scripture, one of the most well-known in the Bible illustrates the lengths to which God loves us. God knew that we needed salvation. He knew we needed to be saved from ourselves, so He gave Jesus to us all so that we may have salvation and payment for our sins. In this verse, Jesus explains that our trust in Him means we shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Has there been a moment in Your life where you felt God demonstrated His love for you in a way that you and only you would notice?
Let’s have a look at another verse.
And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.
Romans 8:28
In this verse, we are reminded of God’s plans and that no amount of distance from His plans can keep us from His plans if we seek Him. I believe that most of us veer away from God’s plans for a significant portion of our lives – even unbeknownst to us. The good news is that once we realize God’s plans are perfect and we ask God to steer us to these plans, He can always cause things to work together to steer us back to His plans.
If you have lived a successful life following your plans and you learned that God’s plans for you would significantly alter your life as you know it, would you pursue God’s plans?
Let’s look at one last verse.
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
Romans 12:1-2Â
In this verse, Paul writes elements that touch on everything we have discussed today. I bring attention to the portion of Paul explaining that the will of God is good, acceptable, and perfect. We can truly align ourselves with God’s will and plans when we decide to present ourselves to God in service. Presenting ourselves to the Lord will most certainly remove us from potentially many creature comforts of the world, but in doing so, we can prepare for a life that is rooted in God’s presence in our lives and the benefits of His constant presence and acts of love.
Do you know of God’s will for your life? If not, is there a part of you that would prefer to keep it that way? If yes, what steps have you taken to move in the direction of God’s will?
Today, we have explored many concepts that help us to understand the importance of trusting God. Trusting God with our lives is a transition and a process. If you have not started the process of trusting God with your life, the process may be difficult. This is especially so if you feel there is no reason to change your lifestyle living a life that seems perfect to you. You might feel that pursuing God’s will in your life will take you away from the things you love. It might. God, however, knows you more than you know yourself, including the things that you love. Trust God today to show you His perfect plans and perfect will for your life, and prepare to be amazed.
