Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.
Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction about taking our first steps with God.
Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.
If you are watching this message online, we invite you to share your comments as we review each verse.
Here is our first verse.
But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6
In this verse, we see clearly the apostle Paul’s instructions that we must have faith in order to truly seek God. We are reminded that God rewards those who seek Him.
I can personally attest to the fact that the more I leaned into God and away from my previous ways of the world, the more I feel my life and career have been blessed in ways I could have never imagined.
Question: How would you measure your faith when it comes to surrendering challenging situations to Him? 20%, 50%, 100%? Whatever it may be, explain the reasons why. Please share with us in the comments.
Let’s have a look at another verse.
casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].
1 Peter 5:7
In this short but impactful verse, we are reminded that we can always come to God. We can bring our worries and fears, or we can bring our celebrations and thanks. In every situation and circumstance, we can come before God because, as the verse explains, God loves us with deep affection and watches over us at every moment.
Question: What is an example of a situation or circumstance that you brought before God? Was it a request, thanks, praise, or.. something else? Explain ‌the situation and your message to God. What did you hope to accomplish in this communication? Share your story with us in the comments.
Let’s look at one last verse.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
In this popular verse from King David, we are reminded of the power of surrender. Notice the word ‘all’ used twice. King David did not use the word ‘some’ or ‘most’, He said ‘all’. When we give -all- of our heart and acknowledge Him in -all- of our ways, we will see God’s influence in our lives in ways we could never have expected. Don’t get me wrong, God does not ignore us if we are feeling ‘lukewarm’ about asking for His influence in our lives, but I can share from personal experience, the more you place your trust in Him, the more you will notice Him show up in your life.
Question: Do you find yourself trusting God with the little things AND the big things or just the things ‘you don’t mind’ handing to Him. Would you consider yourself in a posture of giving ‘all’ of your heart or is it more along the lines of ‘some’ or ‘most’ or even ‘a little’? Explain‌. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Approaching God or re-approaching God can be an incredibly challenging ordeal. It requires us to turn away from our default nature and trust in the unseen. It requires a level of trust that we more than likely have not even given to our most beloved and cherished relationships.
The truth is, God adores and loves every single human on earth. There is a ‘direct line’ from our soul to His spirit and we need only decide to use it.
If we do, we will see His influence in ways that can transform our way of life and elevate our joy.
Place your trust in God and walk with Him today.
Thank you for your time in reviewing these verses with me today. Please be sure to share in the comments how these or other examples of God’s Word have helped you take your first steps with God.
