Going Deeper With the Word – Hear the Voice of God

As we walk with God day to day, how can we experience God? Is it possible to hear His guidance and direction? 🤔 Let's discuss.

Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.

Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction about hearing the voice of God.

Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.

If you are watching this message online, we invite you to share your comments as we review each verse.

Here is our first verse.

But the [a]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

John 14:26

In this verse, we learn from Jesus how the Holy Spirit will intercede on His behalf, comforting, counseling, and strengthening us. This verse provides context and evidence that we can and will receive direct instruction and teachings from the Lord. He even emphasizes that the Holy Spirit will help us to remember when we don’t. We need only to have the desire to serve, the desire for obedience, and the desire to seek out God’s will for our lives.

Question: Do you ask the Holy Spirit to intervene and assist in your day-to-day life? If yes, what is an example of a response you recently experienced? If not, why not?

Let’s have a look at another verse.

‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’

Jeremiah 33:3

In this verse, God speaks to remind us that if we call on Him, He will answer and show us great things. In today’s message, I spoke of the times God has provided me with context and information I could not have possibly known in advance. This verse reassures us that we need not worry about the things ‘we don’t know that we don’t know’ because God knows and will provide us with the information and guidance we need when we ask for His help.

Question: Can you think of a time that God provided you with guidance or an answer to a question that contained details you would not have known? What part of the answer was out of your awareness?

Let’s look at one last verse.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you.
Do not be like the horse or like the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bridle and rein to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.

Psalm 32:8-9

In this verse, God explains once more that He will instruct and teach us, especially if we are willing to learn. He goes on to explain that His eye will be upon us the entire time, as a loving parent would be to a child learning something for the first time.

Question: Is there something you wish to know but have not asked God? Why have you hesitated? Will you ask Today?

God loves all of us unconditionally. Just as a loving parent wishes to assist a loving child, God is eager to lead and guide us if we seek out direction. God knows the right way to speak to each of us in a way that we receive His message without any doubts or questions. We must do our very best to give our questions and concerns and even triumphs to God for only He knows what is truly best for us.

Ask God to speak to you today.
