Going Deeper with the Word – Fighting Doubt: Remembering What God has done

When we bring something to God, how can we know that He will act? Does God hear us with the big things and the small things? What should we do when we are fighting doubt about God? 🤔Let’s discuss.

In today’s “Going Deeper with the Word” segment, we continue our discussion about fighting our doubts.  God’s Word is full of instruction and direction concerning doubt.

As I mentioned earlier in the message, in many circumstances outlined in the Scriptures, we see the consequences of doubt and lack of faith.  In this segment, I would like to highlight a few verses that actually serve to encourage us and remind us that we need not have doubts when it comes to trusting God.

Let’s review several verses taken from the Amplified Bible which can serve to lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message.

The Lord is my light and my salvation —
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life —
Whom shall I dread?

Psalm 27:1

In this psalm of David, we are reminded that God can be our fortress, our stronghold.  When we are experiencing fears and uncertainty, we can always, always turn to God.  When you think of a fortress, what feelings come to mind? What about a refuge?  I think of a place of complete safety and protection. This is precisely what God wants you to know – that He is a source of complete protection.  This does not necessarily mean we will not face difficulties and challenges in life, but it does mean that God’s presence persists in all of our circumstances.

Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth
[removing obstacles that block your way].

Proverbs 3:5-6

In these verses, Solomon explains that we should not rely only on our insight or understanding when examining our circumstances. I take this to mean that we should not limit our perception and understanding of circumstances to our 5 senses and logical reasoning.  That we can rely on the fact that God is with us in every circumstance and that if we place our trust in Him, there may very well be movement in our circumstances that we will not be able to explain through reasoning.  I can confess that the situations where I feel as though God ‘allowed’ me to witness His presence in a thing – pretty much knocked me off my feet and left me feeling exhilarated! I felt so grateful to experience events that I simply could not explain how they occurred!

Let’s look at one more verse about why we should not have doubts when we walk in faith with the almighty God.

‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you;Do not be afraid, for I am your God.I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you;I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’

Isaiah 41:10

In this verse, we are reading the words God placed on the heart and mind of the prophet Isaiah. We see in this verse that God is assuring us that He is ever present and always watching.  Again, if we choose to seek Him and we choose to rely on Him, God has explained that He will help us and that we need not be afraid.

Learning to trust God and be free of doubt is a process.  It has taken me many years to reach the point I am today, where I feel strong and confident in God in nearly every area of my life. That being said, I also recognize I am still growing and finding ways to bring God into my life in areas I still have doubts.  I am evolving and God is still working with me in times of hesitation or pause. I have learned so much about how God will support me through the Word and I hope and pray you will consider the Word of God a source for your learning as well.
