Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.
Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction about the power of gratitude.
Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.
If you are watching this message online, we invite you to share your comments as we review each verse.
Here is our first verse.
This [day in which God has saved me] is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
In this verse, King David expresses gratitude and even joy in the simple fact that -every- day is a new gift from God. We may take each day for granted, but in reality, we are not promised tomorrow. Take joy in the fact that as you are reading or listening to this right now, you are -alive- and you have been granted another day to live. In this sense, each and every day is a beautiful gift!
Question: We do not know the day or hour we will leave this earth. With this in mind, what can you take joy in today, knowing it may not be promised tomorrow? “Let us know in the comments”
Let’s have a look at another verse.
O give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the people.
Psalm 105:1
In this verse, another from King David, we see another expression of gratitude and praise. What I find interesting in this verse is that we see the value of expressing God’s goodness to others. I believe sharing the good news is another form of gratitude, in giving to others the knowledge of the power of faith!
Question: Do you share your faith with others? What do you share and under what circumstances would you share it? Can you think of a situation where you would feel compelled to share your faith, even if it felt uncomfortable? “Let us know in the comments. “
Let’s look at one last verse.
“Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, who obey Him, and who gratefully recognize the benefits that He has bestowed].”
1 Corinthians 2:9
In this verse from the apostle Paul, we see what awaits those that place their trust in God. This is one of my favorite verses because it outlines the -promises- of God for those who love Him. As I know how much I love Him and I know He sees this love in my heart, I often share my gratitude for the things that He has prepared for me – knowing there is no level of imagination that I will perceive exactly what He has in store for me. This truth is such a part of my existence, I often go out of my way to -not- imagine what is coming, because I want to remain in a posture of thanks and gratitude for whatever it may be.
Question: Knowing that God is preparing things for you, what would you say to Him today in advance in gratitude? “Let us know in the comments”
Gratitude is one of the most powerful things we can do in our relationship with God. There is no day that goes by that I do not thank Him and honestly, I don’t even think I am scratching the surface at the amount of thanks He deserves.
I have made so many mistakes in my past and there has been so much sin in my life before I found God; I thank the Lord every day for salvation and for Him wiping the slate clean – forgetting my past sins. Gratitude is a part of walking with God each day, and I encourage you to make it part of your day, for the rest of your days.
Thank you for your time in reviewing these verses with me today. Please be sure to share in the comments how these or other examples of God’s Word have helped you discover the power of gratitude.
