Going Deeper With the Word – Live with Purpose

Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God. 

We just talked about exploring a life with purpose. Now, I want us to explore what Scripture says about this together.

Let’s review examples from God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will read scripture today from the Amplified Bible.

Let’s start off with Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

This verse clearly shares God’s reassurance that His plans are -not- for disaster, that in fact His plans are meant for a state of peace and well-being.

I selected this scripture as a reminder for those who learn that their God given purpose is not what they had in mind for their lives. It can be off putting, even discouraging if you realize in your heart that God is inviting you to move in a direction you had no plans or intention of doing.

This verse reminds us that even if we don’t understand or see the immediate benefit of God’s plans, we should -trust- in Him, knowing these plans are for peace and well-being.

Think of an aspect of your current life or lifestyle that you truly enjoy. Would you be willing to give it up if it were to conflict with your God-given purpose? Why or why not? “Let us know in the comments”

Let’s have a look at another place in the Bible that speaks to the idea of exploring our purpose.

The Lord has made everything for its own purpose,

Even the wicked [according to their role] for the day of evil.

Proverbs 16:4

I selected this verse today to help drive home the importance of purpose. It explains that even those who pursue evil cannot and will not undo God’s purpose. 

I highlight this fact for the inevitable situation where there are people who place obstacles in the way of your God given purpose. You may find in the midst of carrying out your purpose that there are those who seek to distract, dissuade or even block you.

In these times, it is important to remember that God is in control. Keep God top of mind each day as you carry out His purpose for your life. Ask Him to give you sight beyond sight to notice when there are those who place obstacles in your way and ask Him for instructions on how to proceed. Know that God will guide you and will protect you and the purpose He has in store for you. 

Are you aware of your purpose in life? If yes, can you recall a time that seemingly random and illogical obstacles were placed in your path? How did you deal with them at the time? How would you deal with an obstacle today?  “Let us know in the comments”

Let’s look at one last passage.

But indeed for this very reason I have allowed you to live, in order to show you My power and in order that My name may be proclaimed throughout all the earth.

Exodus 9:16 

This verse once again proclaims God’s words, explaining that His plans will not be thwarted and that His plans will demonstrate His sovereignty over the earth.

When we learn of our purpose and we learn of the plan to fulfill God’s purpose, we can know that our actions are  part of a plan to glorify God upon the earth.

Consider the impact of your purpose on the lives of others and the lengths to which God will equip you to fulfill this purpose. You serving God to carry out your purpose gives you an opportunity to demonstrate to others God’s will – not just in your life, but in the lives of others your actions will affect. Whatever your purpose may be, it has the potential to show others the power and glory of God in -their- lives through your actions. 

For example, I truly believe this ministry is my God-given purpose. I would have never imagined I would be used to bring people all over the world to God for the very first time. As of this writing the ministry has over 70,000 followers from all walks of life. That is 70,000 people who are learning and growing in faith, in part from my serving God.  I do not say this to boast. I say this to -demonstrate- how God continues to use me to reach others all over the world in ways I could never have done on my own.

As you carry out your purpose, consider the impact you will have as you share God’s purpose with others!

Know that there is -no- limit to how God may choose to use you to fulfill His plans upon the earth. While God does not ‘need’ any of us, He will gladly use us to carry out His plans. 

Once we know ‌our purpose, it can be one of the most joyful parts of our lived experience. God may allow us to experience a sense of fulfillment that otherwise would not be possible on our own.

He will give you everything you need to carry out His will and allow you to experience the joy that comes with knowing you are serving Him with the gifts He has planted in you.
