Welcome to “Going Deeper with the Word.” In this segment, we welcome people of all backgrounds, religious or not, to review the Word of God. The Word of God provides guidance, direction, and instructions for living our lives and walking with God.
Today, we examine how God’s Word provides clear guidance and direction about living out our faith daily.
Let’s review examples of God’s Word that can lead and guide our steps and back up the principles we learned in today’s message. I will be reading scripture today from the Amplified Bible.
If you are watching this message online, we invite you to share your comments as we review each verse.
Here is our first verse.
‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and tell you [and even show you] great and mighty things, [things which have been confined and hidden], which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’
Jeremiah 33:3
In this verse, the prophet Jeremiah expresses wisdom from the Lord, making clear that when we go to Him in prayer, he will -answer- us. When we live a life that prioritizes prayer, we can live a life that is guided by wisdom. When we pray, we can live a life that has more joy, more fulfillment, and more purpose. When we go to God in prayer, we are demonstrating to Him that we want to include Him in our lives and be in a relationship with Him. This is one of the most powerful aspects and benefits of our faith.
Question: Do you pray? If yes, describe the impact of prayer on your life and what a relationship with God through prayer means to you. If not, what is holding you back from prayer? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Let’s have a look at another verse.
And if you offer yourself to [assist] the hungry
And satisfy the need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday.
Isaiah 58:10
In this verse, we hear the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, explaining in simple terms – that when we offer ourselves to those in need, our light will become bright. The Lord tells us that in giving to others, the very nature of our spirit will become brighter – in fact, in this context – the brightest it can be.
Yes, giving feels good. It feels good to know when we have helped someone. I encourage all of you to seek out ways to help others in need, because as this verse explains, the ‘feel good’ is so much more than we realize, it is an illumination of the light that dwells within us. I imagine this light is not only a benefit to us and our mood, but it is also a source of light to others around us!
Question: Describe the last time you recognized an opportunity to help someone in need. Did you follow through to help that individual? If yes, describe the impact it had on your heart. If not, what was holding you back – and – how might you approach the situation next time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Let’s look at one last verse
And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
Romans 12:2
In this verse, apostle Paul explains the importance of not conforming to the ways of the world. Instead, we should focus on godly values. When we show steadfastness in the ways of God, we not only strengthen our posture in faith, we set an example for others who are unaware of faith. Our courage to stand strong against sinfulness may be the catalyst for someone to turn their life away from the world and towards the Lord.
It’s difficult to remain strong if others around us do not share in our faith and values. In these times, let us remember we can call on the Lord in real time to give us strength, to give us courage, and even to give us the words to speak that will make clear what is right and wrong.
Question: Can you recall a time you were placed in a position of going with the flow or remaining steadfast in your faith? What was the situation and how did you respond? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Living out your faith daily is an opportunity and a privilege. It is an opportunity to show the Light of God to everyone you meet. It is a way to equip yourself with armor to face the challenges that will inevitably occur in life. Thankfully, as we seek to live out a life of faith, the Lord is with us at every step.
Make your faith the foundation of every aspect of your life today!
